Stephen "OMBI" Ombalski graduated with a bachelor’s of science in civil engineering in 1964, the first class to have a UMR diploma versus a Missouri School of Mines one. He served in the Army as a topographic engineer at Fort Belvoir and Army Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany. After his service in the U.S. Army, he worked for Schiavone Highway Construction as Project Engineer and Super in the Interstate Highway Program in New Jersey and New York. He later formed Ombalski Consulting Engineers for another 30 years before retiring in 2013.
He lettered in football in all four years under coaches Gale Bullman and Dewey Allgood from 1960-1963. In 1961, the Miners finished second in the conference. It was Dewey who gave me my nickname" Ombi"
