Jeff Cawlfield
Jeff Cawlfield holds a Ph.D. and a M.S. degree in civil engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.S. degree in civil engineering from Washington State University. He joined Missouri S&T as an assistant professor of geological engineering in 1987, was named associate professor in 1993 and became a full professor in 1999.
As Vice Provost of Academic Support, Cawlfield leads campus-wide efforts to help all undergraduates succeed. The Office of Academic Support oversees the Student Design Center, the S&T Library, New Student Programs, the Student Success Center, the Student Veteran Center, the Writing Center, the Speech Communication Center, L.E.A.D. peer-guided mentoring/tutoring, academic advising resources, undergraduate research programs, and other student success services for undergraduate students.
Prior to being named Vice Provost, Cawlfield served in various capacities as Program Head, Associate Dean, Department Chair, and as the Director of the Freshman Engineering Program. Cawlfield was the NCAA Division II Faculty Athletic Representative from 2003 to 2013 and worked closely with Athletics Director Mark Mullin on the transition when the university’s athletic program shifted its affiliation from the MIAA to the GLVC. At Missouri S&T, Cawlfield has received the Outstanding Teaching Award seven times and the Outstanding Teaching Award for Distance Education three times. He and his wife Lisa are members of the Order of the Golden Shillelagh.
