Dr. Brian Gorman of Golden, Colorado, earned bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D. degrees in ceramic engineering from Missouri S&T in 1996, 1999 and 2003, respectively. A member of the track and field team from 1993-97, Gorman was a three-year letter winner, the 1996 men’s outdoor team most valuable player, and qualified for national meets in both the hammer and weight throws. He has worked in a variety of roles at Texas Instruments, the University of North Texas, Los Alamos National Laboratory, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Aerospace Corp., Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung, and the University of Sydney. A professor for the past 15 years at the Colorado School of Mines, Gorman won the 2023 American Ceramic Society’s Outstanding Educator Award. Gorman and his wife, Alison (Hanson), EE’99, and a dual sport student-athlete, are co-owners of Minima Scientific, a company that develops carbon capture technologies in ceramic building materials.
