Doug competed in basketball for the Miners from 1956-59 and was also a member of the 1958 cross country team; he was also part of the Jackling Jocks. Following graduation, he worked for Boeing as a design team leader for the national aerospace program, which included being the multidiscipline forward fuselage team leader for the F-18 Super Hornet and is currently involved in the structural designing of the F-15 Saudi Advance Hornet.
He has been an associate fellow in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and also served as the First Ward councilman in Ferguson, Mo., from 1975-77 as well as an Extraordinary Minister and Lector in the Catholic Church. Doug and his wife, Margaret Ann Daus, have nine children, 45 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and the couple received the Cardinal Carberry Award in 2007.
