Don received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from MSM in 1958 and a professional degree in aerospace engineering from S&T in 1987. While at MSM, Don was a member of the Miners’ 1956 football team which won a share of the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association title with a 4-1-conference record and 6-3 overall mark. The team won its final three games of the year to gain its share of the title and held six of its nine opponents to under 10 points. Only one team scored more than 20 points against the Miners that season and that came in a Miner victory. The 1956 squad boasted five All-MIAA performers. Don is now retired, spending most of his professional career with McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing). He was vice president of the quality process division and later served as vice president and general manager of the aircraft and missile systems business unit; he retired as vice president and general manager of the Joint Advanced Strike Technology Program. He is a member of many professional and community organizations. He is a member of the Order of the Golden Shillelagh and was the first president and charter member of the Academy of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineers. Don continues to support the Don and Mary McGovern Endowed Scholarship (football) as well as the AMAE Past President's scholarship. Don lives in Lake St. Louis, Mo. He is serving the AMA on the Membership Committee and attended the formation meeting in Rolla in April of this year.
