About Steve Young

Steve graduated from UMR in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in geology. He would later receive his master degree in geology from Arizona State University in 1998 and his doctorate in geology from the University of Arizona in 2003.  Steve was a four-year letterman in cross country and a three-year letterman in indoor and outdoor track & field collectively from 1991-95 collectively.  During that time, he was a multi-season MIAA academic all-conference selection in those sports and in 1995 was the recipient of the M-Club’s Gale Bullman Award.  Currently, Steve is the senior production geologist for Shell Exploration and Production Company, a company in which he has worked with for the past ten years. Steve is also the president of the university’s New Orleans Alumni Section and has also been active in several volunteer and civic organizations. Currently, Steve resides in the Historic French Quarter of New Orleans, La. – one of the oldest and most self-contained neighborhoods in America.
