About Laurie Behm

Laurie L. Behm, M.D. currently practices physical medicine and rehabilitation as a staff physician with the Freeman Health System in Joplin, Mo.  She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 1984 with a bachelor’s of science degree in life sciences. She received her M.D. from the University of Missouri’s School of Medicine in 1989.  She completed an internal medicine internship at Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati and then transferred back to the University of Missouri-Columbia for a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency which she completed in 1993.   She has over 27 years of experience in the medical field.  The recipient of the 1984 Gale Bullman athletic award, Dr. Behm was inducted into the UMR Athletic Hall of Fame in September of 2000, and the S&T Women’s Hall of Fame in 2005.  Dr. Behm also received a professional degree in biological sciences from UMR in May 2001. She holds memberships in the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Medical Association, the Physiatric Association of Spine, Sports and Occupational Rehabilitation and the American Medical Association.  She has two children, a son, Ryan Wood, who is a student in computer science at S&T, a daughter in law, Maiko, and a daughter, Madi Wood, who is a student at University of North Texas.  She also is the proud grandmother to Kokomi Wood.
