About James “Stu” Dunlop

Stu earned eight varsity letters at UMR. He was all-MIAA in football three times, all-MIAA in indoor track twice and all-MIAA in baseball once. He finished his Miner career ranked second all-time in receptions and held two school records in football, while also finishing as the all-time single season batting leader in baseball.

Stu continued his fastball softball career after UMR which culminated in playing for the USA national team in the 1983 Pan-American Games where he earned a silver medal. He is in the Springfield Mo., Softball Hall of Fame and in 2003 was voted as the 85th top athlete in Springfield’s athletic history.

Professionally, he worked 10 years in manufacturing administration and 20 years in sales. Currently, he is an assistant professor of marketing at Missouri Southern State University.

He is married to Dr. Penny Clayton, a professor of accounting at Drury University and a member of the MSU Sports Hall of Fame, the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame and the Springfield Softball Hall of Fame.
