About Gene W. Edwards

Gene received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from MSM in 1952 and received a master’s degree in business from St. Louis University in 1956.  Gene was a four-year letterman in football from 1947 through 1950 and was co-captain in 1950.  The Miners won the conference championship in three of the four years that Gene played.   Gene was also an outstanding member of the track team.  After two years as an officer in the US Army Chemical Branch, Gene engineering positions with McDonald Aircraft Company and Fruin-Colnon Contracting Company before starting his own company in 1963.  He served as CEO of that company, Kit-Mo Rental and Supply and retired in 1992.  He is a registered professional engineer in Missouri.  He was named AGC Construction Man of the Year in 1999 and serves on the board of the Self-Insured Workmanship Insurance Program.  Gene has been a director of the Miner Alumni Association, an S&T Admissions Ambassador, a member of the Order of the Golden Shillelagh and a member of the Miner Alumni Association Athletic Studies Committee.  He is also a member of the Jackling Jocks and has started two named scholarships at S&T, including the Gene and Ann Edwards Scholarship.  He is also a member of many community and service organizations.  He and Ann live in Paducah, Ky.  They have, at last count, seven children, 30 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  He is serving on the AMA Strategic Planning Committee and attended the formation meeting in Rolla in April of this year.
